Every Student Matters

At Elphin Community College, we believe that every student should feel valued, supported, challenged and included. Our school is a place where students are encouraged to do their best, develop their talents, care for others and prepare for life beyond school.

We are proud to serve the community of Elphin and the surrounding areas as a caring, inclusive and ambitious school community.

Our mission is to deliver excellence in education and to nurture each student’s confidence, wellbeing and sense of belonging. We strive to equip our students with the knowledge, skills and values they need to lead fulfilling lives and make positive contributions to their community and society.

Our Mission Statement

Our school exists to serve the educational needs of the community we serve. We aspire to provide an environment that acknowledges educational achievement, enhances student self-confidence, and promotes life skills and attitudes that will enable students to live fulfilling lives and contribute to the betterment of society. We actively aspire to develop partnerships between teachers, parents, and the wider community.

Our Ethos

Elphin Community College is a state, co-educational and multi-denominational school under the patronage of Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board.

We welcome students of all beliefs, backgrounds, cultures and identities. We promote respect, inclusion, equality and positive relationships across the whole school community.

Our ethos is lived through the relationships we build, the learning experiences we provide, the care we show, the standards we set and the sense of belonging we create.

Our Core Values

As a GRETB school, our ethos is underpinned by the core values of Excellence in Education, Care, Equality, Community and Respect.

Excellence in Education

We encourage every student to aim high, work hard and achieve their personal best. Excellence means supporting progress, effort, curiosity and a love of learning.

Care

We place student wellbeing, safety and support at the centre of school life. Care is shown through kindness, encouragement, listening and helping students when they need support.

Equality

We value each person equally and recognise the dignity, strengths and needs of every student. We work to ensure that all students have fair opportunities to participate and succeed.

Community

We are proud of our school community and our links with families, local organisations, GRETB and the wider Elphin area. We work together to support our students.

Respect

We promote respectful relationships between students, staff, parents/guardians and the wider community. Respect means valuing others, listening carefully and treating people with fairness and dignity.
