Big Brother Big Sister Programme:

The Big Brother Big Sister Programme has been set up again in Elphin Commnity College. The programme is a mentoring programme where 1st year students are matched with Transition Year students. The matches are made based on common likes, dislikes, hobbies and interests. Students commit to meeting their Big or little brother/sister once a week. Foroige monitor the programme with Mrs. Gallagher. Students were trained and met their Big / Little on Tuesday last the 5th October.

Elphin Community College Senior Girls Volleyball

Elphin Commnity College started their volleyball season with the Senior girls travelling to Drumshanbo to take on the home side and teams from Kiltimagh and Claremorris. Elphin finished in second place behind Drumshanbo after a pulsating final match losing 25-22, 30-28.

1st Year Parents Night

A well attended First Year Parent Induction Night took place on Thursday 16th September. Parents were presented with information and given advice on the transition from primary to second level. A question and answer session was followed by light refreshments of tea and biscuits and the opportunity for parents to meet and discuss their own experiences. As always this is a worthwhile and enjoyable evening. First Year parents who have not returned the questionnaire are asked to do so as soon as possible.

Enterprise Awards

Anne Browne, Business Advisor from Roscommon County Enterprise Board, visited the school on Monday 20th September. She introduced the Transition Year Students to the Student Enterprise Awards Competition. This involves the students working in teams to come up with a business idea for a product or service. They must then research and develop the idea and market it. The teams will compete at school level initially with the winning team going on to represent the school at county level. Anne will visit the student again in early October to assess progress and advise the students.

Girls Active Programme

The TY, 1st and 2nd year girls are taking part in a Girls Active Programme funded by the HSE and Roscommon Sports Partnership every Thursday for five weeks.

We Have completed 2 weeks and it is really enjoyable and is also great exercise. It motivates girls to try out Hip Hop dancing. It is a great experience and on behalf of all the girls taking part we would like to thank Charlene very much.
